Christine Curtis, Levels 2, 3 & 5 Teacher

Christine has been teaching ESL for over five years. She enjoys sharing her educational background in art and business with her students. Going to museums and taking tours of the city, she believes, are exciting ways of learning about American popular culture. Christine incorporates her genealogical research in France and the Netherlands into her classes by making students aware that we are all immigrants in the U.S. She focuses on getting students to love learning the language and challenges them to practice speaking as much as possible in class.

Cathy Degand Baptiste, Levels 4 & 5 Teacher

A native of Haiti, Cathy has lived in the United States since she was nine years old. She has an associate degree in paralegal studies, a B.A. in Political Science and Journalism and is currently completing her master’s degree in education. She also taught ESL at the Haitian-American Institute in Port-au-Prince. Cathy has a passion for teaching. She makes it her business to ensure that the classroom environment is peaceful so that students can exchange ideas freely and focus on what they want to learn.

Erica Freeman, Academic Preparation Teacher

For the past seven years, Erica has been living her dream of helping people learn to communicate in English. With an undergraduate degree in English and a master’s degree in education specializing in ESL, Erica is well-prepared to help her students achieve their goals in higher education. A fun-loving, dynamic educator, she also enjoys getting to know her students beyond the classroom walls. No matter what level of ESL she teaches, her aim is to inspire her students to fulfill their dreams so they can go out and inspire others.

Alexander Nikodem, Level 2 Teacher

A self-motivated and responsible instructor with a multidisciplinary background, Alex uses a communicative approach in his classes that strongly emphasizes speaking and understanding everyday English while also helping students develop their grammatical skills. He is currently completing his M.A. in speech language pathology. In addition, he received graduate TESOL certification in Korea where he spent over three years teaching English. He credits his experiences there with helping him develop a strong sense of cultural awareness and sensitivity, which he imparts to his students.

Jane Salvador, Academic Preparation Teacher

A lover of the English language, Jane holds an M.A. in education with a specialization in literacy. She spends her days teaching English literature to high school students. In the evenings, she engages her Academic Preparation students in lively class discussions, group work, reading and writing about current events and multidisciplinary topics. Her excellent rapport with her students inspires them to hone their academic skills in order to become successful college students in the future.

Artur Ujazdowski, TOEFL Preparation Teacher

Artur is an energetic and enthusiastic teacher whose 30 years of experience in the classroom is highly valued by students and colleagues alike. A native of Poland, he holds an undergraduate degree in literature and a master’s degree in cultural anthropology and film criticism. Artur credits his students’ high rate of success on the TOEFL exam on his ability to focus on each student’s specific needs. In addition, his attention to detail and his ability to apply different teaching methods to suit students’ learning styles have made him a popular and respected teacher.
