Academic Preparation Program Basics

The Academic Preparation program at CAMPUS Education is suitable for upper-intermediate and advanced-level English speakers who have been in the U.S. for a few years and want to develop their skills even more. The goal of this program is to prepare students to go on to a college or university in the U.S. by providing them with the skills and knowledge they’ll need to succeed. This program consists of a rigorous core curriculum of academic English along with specialized units to improve areas like:

  • Note-taking
  • Presentations
  • Seminar discussions and participation
  • Testing

These small group classes help you to further acclimate to your surroundings, meet new classmates and friends from all over the world, and gain insight into American culture. Many international students may not know what to expect from college life in the U.S. However, it’s important to get an idea of what it’s like beforehand to avoid feeling overwhelmed or shocked. The Academic Preparation program helps international students become acclimated to the cultures and customs that may be different from those within their home country. It runs for 20 hours per week and is offered at our Downtown Manhattan, Manhattan/Penn Station, Midtown, Times Square, and Flushing, NY, locations, as well as at our Jersey City and Palisades Park, NJ, campuses.
